Bowker Library
Named for: Richard Rogers Bowker (Class of 1868)
Architect: Crow, Lewis and Wick Erected: ca. 1930 Demolished: ca. 1957

R.R. Bowker was a publisher who founded Library Journal and Publisher’s Weekly. Only a quarter of this building was ever completed, and the library quickly outgrew the space. In 1957 it was replaced by a building named “Cohen Library” on the southeast corner of 135th Street and Convent Avenue. Bowker was torn down and replaced with Steinman Hall in the early 1960s. As happens, Cohen Library moved from its building (now called “Y”) into the North Academic Center facility when it was completed in 1982. The rear of the plate is labeled “The Library.”
